BOOK REVIEW

I Heart Patchwork
by Rashida Coleman Hale

Published by Interweave Press

Oh, so CUTE! This book is just so cute. Rashida Coleman-Hale, of www.iheartlinen.com has done a beautiful job of incorporating her love of linen with her love of patchwork.

Rashida lived in Japan for a number of years, and the book reflects this in its Japanese style and Zakka-like projects. Several of the items are very Japanese in flavour, such as the Blossom Pincushion (which you can buy ready made from Rashida’s online shop! ) and the Little Lamb Softie.

The book has a lovely and very well laid out section at the front for beginners to patchwork, including descriptions of tools used and information on choosing and caring for fabrics.
Patterns for the projects include full sized templates where needed, as well as clear diagrams and well laid out instructions. My attempts at projects from this book have so far turned out well – several members of my family received the Fold-Up Eco Bag for Christmas, and the Button Calendar is high on my list of Things to Make When I Have the Time.

This book is a wonderful reflection of the inspiration bloggers and online crafters are currently receiving from Japan. Rashida’s friendly writing style and retro colour sense will appeal to a wide selection of crafters.
