FUN THINGS TO DO

How. Fun. Is. This???

To celebrate the publication of Kaffe Fassett's Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts, Kaffe and co-author Liza Prior Lucy have kicked off their U.S. book tour.
STC Craft, the publishers of Kaffe’s new book (and the US publishers of mine I might add!) are hosting…..
The SSSQ Quilt-Along with Kaffe Fassett!
What exactly is a quilt-along, you ask?  It's an online quilting bee. Take part in a modern spin on this age-old tradition by joining the SSSQ Quilt-Along with Kaffe Fassett Facebook group and connect with fellow quilters in locations near and far, all while piecing together your own project from beginning to end.
Along the way, share photos of your work for a chance to get direct feedback from Kaffe and Liza.  You might even be the lucky winner of STC’s SSSQ Quilt-Along with Kaffe Fassett Giveaway.
Quilters of all levels are invited.  Creativity is all that's required.
For more details and a free pattern, follow this link and get sewing – who knows, Kaffe Fassett might just love YOUR quilt!! Swoon…. http://www.melaniefalickbooks.com/quilt-along-with-kaffe/

Quilts for London

This is a FANTASTIC project to get on board with and be a part of the Olympic Games in London 2012! The idea behind it is so simple. Quilters all over the British Nations make a pennant of their own design, and the pennants are displayed in huge strings at exhibitions, both leading up to and at the Olympic Games in London in 2012.

The pennants are required to be A3 size (12” x 16”) so it’s not a huge ask. They can be any shape and design, only they can’t have the Olympic rings on them, and the organisers are asking for no use of Gold, Silver and Bronze for obvious reasons! You can use any form of textile media – felt, cross stitch, tapestry, patchwork – and children’s designs are welcomed. What a fun project to do with your kids!

They need 12,000 pennants for the project, as the object is for each athlete to be able to take a pennant home with them after the Games as a memento.

You also need to add a 4” sleeve for hanging to the back of the pennant, and label it with your Name, the date, your Town and Country and contact details if you choose, so that the recipient can thank you if they like. If you are making the pennant as a part of a group, please add the Group’s name. You may also add a message to the athlete if you wish.

Please also include a cover letter with your contact details (email address and telephone number)  when you post the Pennant to the organisers, so that they can tell you it arrived. If you don’t hear anything, you can call the organisers on:

01442 404234 for Britain and
02 6769 0346  Australia and NZ

Closing date for Pennants is December 2011, so you have plenty of time! So get sewing and post your Pennants to:
