SANTA CLAUS

Sewn was lucky enough this week to jump into Santa's busy schedule andsit down with the man in red over a glass of mlk and some cookies. We asked him about bunch of our favourite quilters, crafters, designers and authors - what is it that they have asked Santa to bring? It seems a lot of us would like a time turner or a clone, but aside from that there are some nifty things we all want in our stockings!

Cherri House, Cherry House Designs

"A proper sewing table, one where my sewing machine is flush with the table surface."

Lizzy House, Fabric designer

"If I could get any supplies this Christmas, mass supply of Ribbon , more books for my reference library
every color of German glass glitter  it would be a dream if Santa would bring me those!"

Cynthia Mann, Fabric Worm

"If Santa would be so kind as to get my 1960 Sears Kenmore a little overhaul that would be fabulous. I'd also love a new Serger, mine is so sad, always knotting up. Phewee! Oh and I'm in dire need of one of those tiny rotary wheels. BTW look for an interview in SewHip magazine in February on Fabricworm/Birch Fabrics. Happy Holidays!"

Anni Downs, The Home Patch and Hatched and Patched patterns

"One thing I would love (and know I will probably never get) is a set of small antique filing drawers to hold all of my thread in. At the moment it seems to roam wildly about the house, the cat treating my balls of thread like mice. It would be lovely to have a special place to store them. I love things that are gorgeous as well as functional."

    Angela Yostern, Moda Fabrics

"I would love for Santa to bring me a Janome serger, patterns from Melly & Me and the Janelle Wind collection. Those two designers are very difficult to find in the USA and Santa travels the world so I know he can get them. I promise to be a very good girl! ;)"

Jennifer Paganelli, fabric and pattern designer, Sisboom

"That's easy a vacuum with a 20 year warranty!! On a more serious note an end to the war in Afghanistan."

Linda Lum de Bono, Author, fabric designer

"My star is too heavy for my tree top and it fell over. [I could have sworn it worked last year]. So I wanted a new tree topper. And, well, I wouldn't mind a new Nikon SLR if anyone's asking!"

  Amy Lobsiger, Mrs Schmenkman Quilts

"A design wall because this design bed thing isn't working for me OR A professional organizer to get my sewing room back in order OR A set of these pencils of the month"

  Saffron Craig, Fabric designer

"Craft wise- Egyptian cotton tread in pink, purple, red and magenta to go with my new fairy fabrics, would be a treat. Polka dot fabrics in pink and brown to mix in with my fairies. Books- I love books- I would like to have Meet me at Mikes book. Material Obsession quilting book 2. Japanese Craft magazines featuring Children's wear and bags patterns, I could happily own a lot of them as they are so inspiring.  A new sketch book. More storage options- like a book case and draws and thread holders ( that is a yawn thought!)"

Pam Vera-McGuinness, Pam Kitty Morning

"I'd love one of those Bendable Bright Lights you stick on the side of your sewing machine and Alex Anderson's new 4 in 1 tool!!"

Lisa Walton, Quilt designer

"Easy - time and inspiration"

  Monica Solorio-Snow, The Happy Zombie

"I would like Santa to give rides on his sleigh to take quilters all over the world so we could get together and quilt-n-stitch with friends in far away places. Instead of serving peanuts on the flight, Santa would give each passenger a magic needle threader".

Pat Sloan, Author, quilt designer, fabric designer, wonder woman!

"oh that is easy!! An assistant that comes with a LARGER Studio space!
oh.. that is 2... sorry!! Pick one or the other.. both a fantasy at this point..LOL!"

Brandon Mably, Designer, author

"What I'd like in my Santa stocking would really be telling wouldn't it, but besides my hidden secrets I'd like to see my fabrics used on fashion garments as well as patchwork. Tickets to hear the King College Choir singing Xmas Carols.  A party with all my favourite people with a fancy dress party theme. A 90 minute deep tissue massage and a whole lot more time to create and not have to deal with admin.  But Really, really, really, hearts of hearts there isn't anything I want. My life is so full I feel like a helium ballon going up, up, up. As long as I can laugh and help people feel good for themselves and share what I have - thats all I really want."

Cathy Underhill, Cabbage Quilts

"I would love more time at Christmas to sew, create, make things. Christmas can be such a mad time of year and the shopping and socializing seem to eat into the sewing time! And of course a bit of fabric from a favourite online shop never seems to hurt either!"

  Rashida Coleman-Hale, Author, designer

"Yay! What fun! I love Santa. Hmmm...what would I like for Christmas? More opportunities to sew and create for my family and friends. I love the holidays and all the fever pitch creating we do for our loved ones around that time. We're all so busy and I'd love to be able to have time to make more things, 'Just Because'."

Becky Goldsmith, Quilt and fabric designer, author

"I don't need this and I don't know that I would actually ever use it, but I would love to have the perfect traveling watercolor set. Something small and light but with everything you'd need when journaling. That said, understand that I only use my journal sporadically. I'm more of journal-dreamer than a journal-doer. But I'm just sure that with the right watercolor set I would journal like crazy. Or not."

Sherry Nugent, Editor, Irish Quilting

"A SewEzi table, so I can do projects easily anywhere on the go! Please put a good word in for me."

Deborah Segaert, Editor, Down Under Quilts

"Wow, apart from the obvious TIME, I would like Santa to bring me an Embellisher machine. I am so fascinated by all this wonderful needle felting I am seeing everywhere, and I'd love to make my own!"

 Jenny Kingwell, amitié  textiles

"I would really love the mice from Beatrix Potter's "The tailor of Gloucester". I am sure many of us need these little friends to come at night and help with the UFOs or even to help with the million or so ideas swimming in our minds. If they are not available, I would like a really good compass that will draw large circles to help me with my design process."

  Marianne Byrne-Goarin, Designer, Author

"Top of my list is a quilter's basting gun... the one that shoots tiny plastic tags through the layers of fabric to hold them together. As a designer working with woolfelt who loves cutting out tiny motifs to appliqué, my new  designs are always full of pins. The basting gun saves fingers from unecessary pin pricks and gives a great overall view of a
new design. I also use it to pin my designs up on my booth walls when I do craft or patchwork shows. So much easier than fussing  around with safety pins or metal staples while teetering on the top of the ladder.  ps. best ever invention for pairing socks in the washing machine. As mother of 3 boys and wife to 1 wonderful husband that all wear size 43 black socks, sorting socks after washing is my all time nightmare task. So now I just tack them together before washing!"

  Jenny Hart, Sublime Stitching

"Friends always seem to expect embroidered gifts from me but what they really don't know is that I would love just as much  to get some sweetly embroidered gifts from them!"
